Top B2B Hashtag Examples by Industry (Plus Examples for Each)

Written by protocol 80 | March 08, 2021 // 3:00 PM

Hashtags: One of the most underrated marketing tools there is. While many may see these as a trendy joke to post with your highest-quality photo of a dessert, they actually play a massive role in your social media content creation and audience reach.

And hashtags are relevant on all social media platforms. The top LinkedIn hashtags for a specific industry may also be useful on Twitter or Facebook or Instagram. A lot of that will depend on the industry you work in.

But before we show you some top B2B hashtag examples, let’s take a closer look at what a hashtag actually is and how it works.

What Is a Hashtag?

A hashtag is word, or phrase, that starts with the pound sign (#). If you read the dictionary for fun, you may have also seen it referred to as an octothorpe. Hashtags help bring identity and attention to posts that use them.

Hashtags can help you reach a wider audience -- people following a specific hashtag can see your post, even if they don’t follow your individual account. In other words, social media platforms use hashtags to categorize your posts, making it easier for users to find relevant posts.

If you consistently, and effectively, use a certain hashtag that a lot of people follow, it can generate new website traffic and leads, plus expand your current social media following.

Hashtag Do’s and Don’t’s

If you’re looking to incorporate hashtags into your B2B social media strategy, or have been blindly using them for a while, there are some basic do’s and don’ts.

Do

  • Create a list of hashtags that will be useful for you on each individual platform. Although some work for several platforms, the most popular medical hashtags on Facebook may not necessarily be the top healthcare hashtags on LinkedIn.

  • Pay attention to hashtag trends. Depending on what’s going on in the world, hashtag trends can help boost your visibility. (Just don’t overdo it or make light of sensitive situations, or you risk hurting your brand.)

  • Steal from your competitor. If you have a known competitor who is flourishing on social media, take a peek at what hashtags they’re using and try them out for yourself.

Don’t

  • Use overly vague hashtags. For example, if you’re looking for the best hashtags for engineering, you want to make them somewhat unique, like using “#engineeringdesign” and “#civilconstruction” instead of “#engineering.” General words like that have a TON of followers, and your post will get lost in the chatter.

  • Overuse hashtags. As a general rule, try to use at least two, but less than five per post. Keep on the lower side for Facebook and Twitter, and on the higher side for LinkedIn and Instagram. Hashtags are turned into hyperlinks, meaning they will be a different color from your post’s text. Having too many can become distracting, and can look unprofessional.

  • Try to make up your own hashtag. Look, we get it: You’re really hip and cool. But the odds of trying to start a new hashtag trend are slim to none, especially for the B2B industry

Incorporate #Hashtags Into Your Content Marketing

Hopefully these examples have not only helped you understand the importance of hashtags, but sparked some ideas of your own as well. If your business uses any social media platform as part of their marketing strategy, then you need to be incorporating hashtags.
