Creativity in Digital Marketing: Building Up Your Brand

It’s 2026, and you’re still neglecting the importance of creativity in digital marketing.

Or maybe you understand its importance, but don’t know where to start. B2B, after all, does not stand for boring-to-boring.

There are several clever B2B marketing ideas that can help those either in a funk or starting from scratch. For whatever reason you’ve arrived, we’re here to help.

Let's Get Creative With Your B2B Marketing

When we think of a B2C digital marketer, we typically think of someone with out-of-the-box thinking who is innovative and creative. Just because you’re in manufacturing or another B2B field doesn’t mean you can get away with bland messaging like “we make high-quality products” and “our customer service is #1.”

But what exactly does it mean to have creativity in digital marketing? Let’s break it down:

  • Connect your product to the outside world
  • Refresh content
  • Establish connections with like-minded brands
  • Act on the analytics
  • Take risks
  • Ideate with colleagues, customers, and clueless bystanders
  • Visualize your content
  • Engage your employees

No, this is not some William Shakespeare poem or textbook-guided marketing principle. This came straight from the dome. Simple, yet effective. Now let’s find you some B2B marketing campaign ideas of your own:

Connect Your Product or Service to the Outside World

Some of the most clever B2B marketing ideas have come from current trends and making real-world connections. Creating relevant content presents the opportunity for your brand to also be relevant by association. Focus on the output’s excitement and innovation through your copy and visuals. While the component your company produces may be “boring,” the end application doesn’t have to be.

One example is adding links to your content. Links take only a few seconds to add to a post, and external links offer a third-party credibility that your own brand can’t. While there is no exact formula for a viral TikTok, the key is consistency. If you are consistent with your brand persona and your content publishing cadence, you’re already doing one thing right.

It’s important to know your audience: what they like, what they’re passionate about, and their purchasing habits. Doing this research can help you integrate relevant references to things happening that your persona would find interesting, entertaining, or all of the above.

Refresh Content

Most companies have a scrapbook of content dating back to the brand’s beginnings. This includes anything from blog posts to social media promotion. Reoptimizing your content is especially great for copywriters out of ideas and needing a break from the grind of writing technical content from scratch. Instead of letting existing content go to waste and fly under the radar, updating it for relevancy is sometimes a more efficient, yet effective content curation tactic.

Not only is refreshing current content easier than creating from scratch; it also may open opportunities to convert the content into new formats. For example, if a blog post is performing well, consider converting the content into a short video for YouTube and then clipping it into a reel for Facebook or LinkedIn. If a topic works and is attracting users, why not make the most of it?

The rule of thumb is that a blog post is most likely to hit its peak after the 6-9 month mark. If declines are continual for a few months after, it's time to refresh your content.

Establish Connections With Like-Minded Brands

If you’re in a funk or feeling countercreative, partnerships are a great way to boost your brand awareness and credibility. Partnerships are mutually beneficial, as both brands gain access to each other’s audiences.

Partnerships can go beyond a B2B transaction. Influencer marketing has also taken the world by storm, and creating guest articles for an expert/publication in the field (or vice versa) can also add to your street cred. Guest content is a transactional tactic that benefits both your brand and the content writer. It solidifies expertise in a particular area, while simultaneously gaining recognition from the content writer. Tagging suppliers/partners in your social posts also helps to build third-party credibility with the off-chance of the brand liking, commenting on, or reposting your content.

That said, it’s important to do your research. Ensure that the company you're partnering with has similar values and that you trust the product/service.

Act On the Analytics

Reports aren’t created just for fun, or maybe they are (if so, kudos to you). To most, reports are strategic initiatives that inform future marketing decisions. So, why wouldn’t you use the analytics and recommendations from your monthly, quarterly, yearly reports?

These suggestions can come up quite obviously. Say, if a website page has been consistently declining quarter to quarter, it's time to improve its messaging or better optimize it for conversions.

Opportunities could also appear non-organically. If something is performing well, developing new topics around the idea could act as a lead generation tool. For example, a blog post on the cost of manufacturing hinges could lead to an interactive cost calculator, which we could add to that article or other pages on the site.

Say you’ve seen social posts on the decline. The simple solution wouldn’t necessarily be to post more content. It would be posting something different – or more strategic, which is the perfect segue to our next point.

Take Risks

Put yourself in a user’s shoes. If you’re seeing the same AI-generated content being posted on LinkedIn, chances are, you’re going to skip past it. You may even resort to the unfollow button. This is just one of many examples of playing it safe, and safe does not equal results.

Many industrial companies offer roughly the same services and capabilities, and thus are only differentiated by the trust and empathy they inspire. Inbound marketing is the place to take risks and do something different. What’s the worst that could happen?

We’re not saying any press is good press. That depends on who you ask. Just make sure you run risky ideas by your stakeholders before you publish them.

One common example was the Nike campaign with Colin Kaepernick in 2018. Nike promoted Kaepernick as a spokesperson, even after he refused to stand for the national anthem before NFL games.

While the feedback wasn’t entirely positive, Nike reported an overall increase in sales year over year. We don’t know whether the increase in sales was caused by this campaign or another, but one thing is for sure: Nike is still thriving, and the campaign got people talking. Your campaign does not have to go to this extreme, but it’s an interesting lesson nonetheless.

Ideate With Others

Have you ever heard the quote, “Alone, we can do so little; together we can do so much”? Helen Keller was beyond her time, as this still stands true today. Collaborating with others is a great way to generate new ideas and keep the conversation going.

Transparently, there is not one particular person you should or shouldn’t consult for ideation.

Your coworkers know the ins and outs of the business and may have an idea that you’ve never thought of. One of your friends or family members may have studied business and has been holding onto a business-altering marketing campaign. Your customers are the ones receiving the product, and likely have valuable opinions on what your business is doing well versus where it could do better. Even someone who has no knowledge of your brand could help identify if an ad would catch their attention or get them to recognize the brand.

In fact, audience research is the leading factor in successful content marketing campaigns.

Research can occur in many forms:

  • Send surveys to different demographics to collect scattered data
  • Test to determine whether something is going to work before it’s published
  • Generate questions for buyer interviews to collect opinions and recommendations for your inbound strategy

Visualize Your Content

The best-performing content marketing format is video. The reason for this is the art of storytelling (and capturing short attention spans). Video and images are easy to digest, which is what makes them so powerful.

While B2Bs don’t stereotypically perform well on TikTok or Instagram, reels and images can certainly be more effective on platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, or YouTube.

A few commonly successful video types include:

  • How-To/Prouct Demos: Step-by-step instructions walking you through the construction, usage, and/or applications of your product/service.
  • Facility Tours: The environment behind the products, offering a personal, individualized experience to customers.
  • Testimonials: Feature real clients, employees, or customers, conveying the positive association with your brand.

Engage Your Employees

Your coworkers are the backbone of your business. Your best and most experienced employees have top-tier knowledge of the inner and outer workings of the brand. They also have established credentials to sell and promote the brand (meaning, they’re your free spokespeople).

Integrating simple social media content such as employee spotlights, behind-the-scenes content, etc. gives your employees the recognition and opportunities to share their experience. They can not only enjoy working with you, but they will tell others how much they enjoy working with you (and for your brand).

Blossom Your Creativity in Digital Marketing

While there are many things you can do to make your marketing creative, don’t put too much pressure on it. The more you think about it, the more you’ll overthink it.

Expand beyond traditional marketing. Experiment, expect the unexpected, create partnerships, and develop personalized experiences. The goal is to find unique ways to showcase what makes your brand different, build meaningful audience connections, and turn everyday touchpoints into actionable opportunities.
